Openness means that you are interested in finding out something new trough the exchange that you did not know yet, or experiencing something that you have not experienced before. Openness also means, that you are willing to change your ideas, opinions and goals.
Otto Scharmer, who developed the Theory U, speaks of open mind, open heart and open will, which means roughly: to be open to new ideas, to be open to changing your feelings about others and to be open to changing your goals and intentions.
As a baby we are in a merged state with our mother. In this early life phase the baby
does not distinguish between self and other yet. When mother is happy, the baby is happy and when she is unhappy so is the baby. It usually is a blissful state of love and complete connection.
But it is in our nature to develop boundaries and become an individual with our own feelings and identity, and our own space.
Our awareness of boundaries begins in the womb as we grow and we become too big to float freely in the womb water: the touch of our skin and the pressure of the womb make us feel our physical boundary.
